MA Aesthetics and Art Theory

The MA programme in Aesthetics & Art Theory, which had its first intake in 1998, is a response to the recent surge of interest in philosophy and aesthetics on the part of artists, art historians and art theorists. The programme is available both full-time (one year) and part-time (evenings, two years). After studying four modular units from a range of options, students write a research dissertation (12-15,000 words) under close supervision, on an approved topic of their choice. Authors studied include Adorno, Benjamin, Buchloh, de Duve, Duchamp, Greenberg, Heidegger, Kant, Krauss, Lyotard, Marx, Rancière, and Warhol.

Entry requirements
Candidates are expected to have a good honours degree in a relevant subject, but all applicants will be given careful consideration on an individual basis. Where English is not the first language, the minimum requirement is an IELTS score of 6.5 or the equivalent.

Information for applicants is available here.

If you would like more information about the programme, please get in touch with Peter Hallward (p.hallward@mdx.ac.uk).
