Objectives

In the last decades the world has witnessed the most dramatic rise in living standards in history. Advancements in Science and Technology (S&T), Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and globalization among others have helped improve those standards. However, at the same time, new and more complex risks have arisen threatening to harm not only human health or the environment but our existence on earth. The perception, assessment and management of these risks are increasingly seen as core principles determining the development of both policy and strategic responses to the changing demands of the society. The understanding of these principles is fundamental to develop and implement strategies which are both coherent and appropriate for each situation. Risk management involves identifying suitable and practicable measures to ensure that risks remain to a minimum level.

The adequate training of risk managers has become the key issue to address their increasingly complex duties by providing the skills to use, maintain and extend the functionality of the risk management systems. In this symposium distinguished specialists in risk management training will exchange innovative ideas and strategies on the role of university educational programs in providing with a training that addresses the continuous social changing demands. We will also discuss the importance of designing an international network of risk management training programs. All people interested in risk management training issues are welcomed to participate in this symposium.
