Postgraduate Certificate in Risk Management
The Postgraduate Certificate in Risk Management is a 60 credit taught programme consisting of 2 modules taught over one or two years, depending on student availability to attend two days a week. Our integrated, holistic and structured approach to the investigation and management of risk issues, including structural factors and governance processes is based on an appraisal of the differences in approach of various sectors and professions and consideration of the ways that strategic decision making may be improved by integration, by improved communication and by dialogue. This is complemented by working through a number of practical, real-world case studies chosen to reflect current professional practice in a number of sectors. Guest lecturers from different sectors contribute to both modules to bring direct experience of real world risk management roles. To do this we have developed core modules that look at the theoretical and practical dimensions of risk management decision making from a multi-disciplinary, science-led perspective and the psychological, social, economic, legal, cultural and philosophical factors which impinge upon personal and institutional risk management decision making. The principles and practice in these modules are appraised with respect to real world practice in a number of sectors and this practical evaluation is extended further through a number of case studies.
